Dead pixel failure repairs on Audi dashboard instrument cluster LCD display
Audi A4 and A8 dashboard instrument clusters (OLD VERSION PRODUCED BEFORE 1996) may have the common dead / fading / disappearing pixels on the LCD display that shows the time, radio, and the on board computer messages and other functions. Whereas at newer models the problem lies with the LCD display, at older versions the pixel problem lies with the ribbon cable / flat cable that connects the LCD display to the circuit board of the instrument cluster. The pictures below show the instrument cluster's LCD display before and after the LCD display / ribbon flat cable replacement.
before pixel repairs - visible pixel failure
after pixel failure repairs - new ribbon cable applied
You will find ribbon cables / flat cables for the following models / units below:

Afterword:
Dead LCD pixels, fading LCD pixel on Audi speedometer, instrumnet cluster or on Audi Concert stereo unit are quite bad looking parts of a good car’s interior, so it is understandable that you may want to get it fixed. Replacement of the complete unit is quite expensive, that is why we try to encourage people to get it fixed by a professional on half price, or do the ribbon cable replacement at home on tenth price. As we sell quality flexible ribbon cables, bulbs / lamps or DIY repairs and for professionals. This very common pixel failure is known on Audi A3, A4 A6 and TT vehicles, typically on speedometer and Stereo units.
